Rebates

Mental Health Care Plans

The Medicare rebate for clinical psychology is currently $141.85 per session, for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. You will need a current Mental Health Care Plan to claim the Medicare rebate for your clinical psychology sessions. Your usual GP or psychiatrist can help you organise a Mental Health Care Plan, if you don't already have one.

Eating Disorder Management Plans

Eating Disorder Management Plans are similar to Mental Health Care Plans, except that you can access further subsidised sessions. If you have been diagnosed with an eating disorder, or believe you may have an eating disorder, speak to your GP or psychiatrist about your eligibility for accessing clinical psychology sessions with an Eating Disorder Management Plan.

Private Health Insurance

Private health insurance may cover some of the fee for clinical psychology sessions, however, the amount covered will be dependent on your level of cover. Please note that for each clinical psychology session, you may claim a rebate from either Medicare or your Private Health Fund, but not both.
